Dear Parents/Carers
Can I extend my thanks to you all for your support and understanding of our decision to close the school early today. We never take that decision lightly and, as always, take as much advice as possible before a decision is made. Given the information we had, it was important that pupils and staff could get home early, prior to anticipated trouble on the Newtownards Road and at other location around NI.
Can I also thank you all for coming so promptly and for working together to support one another with pick-ups and supervision. That’s the kind of community we strive to develop in St Joseph’s Primary School, and it was wonderful to see it in action today.
Our plan at the moment is to open a usual tomorrow and have a normal school day. The P5 Trip to the Zoo and the P3 Trip to W5 will go ahead as planned. We will not close unless specifically instructed to do so by the Department of Education or the PSNI.
We understand that some parents and families may not feel safe travelling to and from school at present and that you may take the decision to keep your children at home tomorrow. Can I assure you once again, that your children will be safe in school and that our amazing staff will be here to look after them, to protect them and to reassure them at this time.
Please ensure that you are reading messages on SeeSaw, on the iClass app and on the various PTA WhatsApp groups to ensure you are fully informed with developments.
Take care everyone,
Mr Donnelly
