In the same week that P6A completed a classroom based
mindfulness course, Paws B our Amber Flag for excellence in
promoting positive mental health was delivered to the school. P6
have explored the science of mental health, named the parts of
the brain and how each part is responsible for how we feel and
act as well as how our thoughts impact emotions, actions and
body sensations.
Our school motto, ‘We all matter, we all belong, we all try to do
our best’ is something that we can only truly take onboard when
our mental health is good. Therefore, St Joseph’s is committed to
promoting activities and experiences that contribute to positive
mental health.
A snapshot of what has led to our success:
- Participation in Being Well, Doing Well programme organised
by the EA.
- Mrs Magee appointed as Well-Being Coordinator and Fr Conor
as Board of Governors Well-Being link officer.
- Relax Kids delivered to every child in St Joseph’s.
- Paws B classroom based mindfulness delivered to the two P6
classes.
- Mrs Magee trained as a Mental Health First Aider.
Focus on 5 steps to wellbeing to provide a wide range of
activities encouraging children and staff to be active, give, learn,
connect and take notice.

The future is bright! Next year our goals include:
- Establishing wellbeing teams for pupils and staff.
- Further training to expand the skill set of staff to
deliver learning opportunities in mental health,
bereavement support and trauma informed practice.
